93% of Israelis Say Food Prices Continue to Rise

Israel’s poor continue to struggle to put food on the table, and over 93% of Israelis say it is getting harder to afford basic necessities.

With the Passover quickly approaching, families in Israel have little hope that they will be able to celebrate the holiday or afford any of the special foods required.

And food prices in Israel are relatively higher than most advanced economies. An article on The Jerusalem Post says:

The study cited survey that show 93% of residents believe prices have continued to rise.

The category of meat, poultry and fish rose, at a rate of 5.2%, though the government passed a new reform to introduce more competition in that sector in the past week.

Though the study noted several laws meant to increase competition in food markets, it said more research was required before the policy could be definitively linked to the price effect.
