Unrest in Ukraine Turns 1.7 Million People into Refugees

The ongoing civil unrest in Ukraine has claimed close to 9,400 lives since 2014. CBC News’ Michael Colborne reports that 1.7 million people have been forced from their homes to other parts of Ukraine:

Despite the fact that there's a nominal ceasefire in place, military and civilian casualties continue to mount in eastern Ukraine, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights says.

The war has forced more than 1.7 million people from their homes to other parts of Ukraine.

Rabbi Eckstein visited Ukraine earlier this year, saying he had, “never seen it this bad.”

Many elderly in the Ukrainian Jewish community have gone days with no food or water. For many, a cup of hot water is a meal. When they can afford to, they buy half a loaf of bread, which must then last two weeks.
