Israel’s Children are Second Poorest in Developed World

“Israel has the second-highest rate of poverty among children and teenagers in the developed world, according to a report published by the National Insurance Institute.”

In a recent report about the welfare of Israel’s citizens, it has come to light that children in the Holy Land suffer from the second-highest rate of poverty in the developed world. The report, from the National Insurance Institute, states that with 25% of the population aged 0-17 years classified as poor, Israel is only ahead of Turkey, and eight places below the average. The Times of Israel reports:

The NII found that welfare allowances for children, the elderly, and the unemployed are also among the lowest in the Western world, Army Radio reported. The country’s investment in welfare put it seventh place from the bottom.

Israel has consistently scored badly on poverty indices in recent years.

In May 2013, it was found to have a poverty rate of 21%, the highest among all the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries listed.
