Untitled Document Project Spotlight: Art Class for the Elderly“The Fellowship feels blessed to not only provide basic needs to needy elderly across Israel, but also to provide them days of joy, like sponsoring art classes, to lighten their spirits...”The Fellowship feels blessed to not only provide basic needs to needy elderly across Israel, but also to provide them days of joy, like sponsoring art classes, to lighten their spirits and provide with the opportunity to socialize. The Fellowship field coordinator in the Krayot region recently recruited an art student, Revital, who is volunteering with elderly women by leading an art class. Revital diligently prepares the art room so her students feel welcomed when they arrive. She dims the lights, opens the curtains, makes tea, turns on classical music, and sets out books on famous painters for inspiration. During the class, the elderly art students paint the display of vases with flowers that is set up in the middle of the room. They use pencils, charcoal, or pastels to draw. For a short while, these elderly women can forget about their assisted-living facility, and spend time simply being painters! “The Fellowship feels blessed to not only provide basic needs to needy elderly across Israel, but also to provide them days of joy, like sponsoring art classes, to lighten their spirits...” |
