Hanukkah for the Holy Land’s Heroes Hanukkah will soon be celebrated by Jewish people around the world, and we are once again thankful that we can provide some holiday cheer to Israel and her people. During this festive season, IFCJ Canada volunteers deliver traditional Hanukkah treats, like jelly doughnuts or “sufganiyot” to God’s most desperate people throughout the Holy Land. On Hanukkah, it’s traditional to eat foods fried in oil in commemoration of the miracle of the menorah that happened during the rededication of the Holy Temple. When the victorious people of Israel reached the Temple, they only found one jar of olive oil, enough to keep the eternal flame of the menorah lit for one day. In faith, they lit the menorah, and miraculously, the flame lasted for eight nights until more pure oil could be found. Being able to celebrate God’s miraculous provision for his people — provision He showed to during Bible times, and that He still shows today — during this season of miracles will certainly be a boost for God’s people this Hanukkah — a boost from Fellowship friends who support Israel and her people.
