A Day of Remembrance

May 17, 2016

“I just finished feeding my baby, when the Memorial Day siren went off last week…”

Shalom,

I just finished feeding my baby, when the Memorial Day siren went off last week.

Staring into his new and pure eyes, I thought of all of the mothers and fathers of Israel who had dreams for their children ripped bitterly away, as they buried them in the soil of the Holy Land, which those children gave their life fighting for.

All children of Israel enter the army when they turn 17. And before I know it, my children will be proudly dawning their uniform as well. It brings me both pride and fear. It reminds me how those soldiers who fell for Israel are family; not strangers. Even if I never met them before.

So on Memorial Day, I had three prayers:

  • Let there be peace.
  • Let there be peace.
  • Let there be peace.

With blessings from the Holy Land,

Yael
