“It was a solemn time to remember what the Jewish people have experienced throughout their history, a history that still finds many facing violence and anti-Semitism to this day.”

Of the many atrocities of the Holocaust, one of the most well-known is the slaughter of tens of thousands of Ukrainian Jews at the Babi Yar ravine.

Recently, IFCJ Canada board chair Stockwell Day visited the Babi Yar Memorial with his wife, Valorie, while in Ukraine to accompany a Fellowship Freedom Flight to Israel. The Jerusalem Post's Tamara Zieve reports on the 75th anniversary to remember the innocent Jews of Ukraine who were massacred at Babi Yar:

The ravine of Babi Yar, located in the Ukrainian capital, is the site of mass killings by Germans and their collaborators.

Among the 150,000 victims thought to be buried there are 33,771 Jews who were killed in just two days, September 29-30, 1941…

“About one-third of the total population of Ukraine was killed in World War II, mainly by Germans. Some 90% of the Jewish community was exterminated…”
