God is Speaking to Us

Shalom,

It feels like the earth has kind of gone crazy. Each week we're seeing news of record breaking hurricanes, strong earthquakes, historic fires, and more.

But this isn't just the earth – it's God speaking to us. What is he saying? I don't know, but this is what my heart is hearing:

– We've set up such security around us with our homes, banks, first responders system that we have forgotten what our true security is.
– We've built skyscrapers, rocket ships, huge airplanes and boats; it feels like we can build and do everything, but we have forgotten who the ultimate builder is.
– We have internet, cell phones, data clouds, and self-driving cars. We think that the technology developed is the work of our hand and impossible to destroy. We have forgotten that it's all vulnerable and can be destroyed in a second.

I look at God as loving. I look at God as good. And I look at these world events as a wakeup call, going into the Jewish New Year, thinking that we should enjoy God's creation, work for progress, advance technology, but never forget that ultimately God is in charge and bigger than anything we could imagine.

Dare we get too comfortable in everything we built, that we start to forget that it can all be destroyed in an instant.

My prayer is that this Rosh Hashanah and New Year we turn our hearts up to God not from a place of fear or destruction, but from a place of thanksgiving, joy, and love. May God settle the earth and bless us all with peace.

Happy Rosh Hashanah, friends. Shana Tova!

With blessings from the Holy Land,
Yael
